Brief Thought On Capitalism.

“This city is haunted by a spectre … the spectre of capitalism.” – I scribbled this down, on the back page of a paperback since it was the most conveniently placed piece of paper, one recent night and have been meaning to post it since.

It conjured the image of capitalism, as a fog that nuzzles against window-panes, hanging in the air, and spilling into open spaces.

It also pointed to a fundamental truth; capitalism is only a spectre.

Would have been better than 'newcastle exports clm8 chaos' especially if they then painted a portrait of Milton Friedman underneath that looked freakishly like a certain prime minister was included and anti-christ; as I think I have figured out the problem with the world, it continually just gets more beaurocratic, much like entropy - 'beaurocratic entropy' as it were. This could certainly be a sympton of this spectre.

I really think that it is more the sort of slogan that should be chalked up on various surfaces at street level; I can see it on footpaths and lampposts, or silk-screened notices pasted on ‘construction walls’, or stencilled on walls in blue paint …

Personally, I feel that ‘newcastle exports clim8 chaos’ is a vile simulation that does nothing but smear an important Novocastrian artistic statement. Viva ‘This Is Not Art’!

And, finally Rowan, I do like your point abut 'bureaucratic entropy'; I just don’t think that it is the only problem with the world though you may yet convince me …

For those interested – i.e. the miniscule number of readers who find their way here but who are not Novocastrians – a photograph of the original ‘THIS IS NOT ART’ slogan is available at - http://nerdling.net/images/thisisnotart.jpg. I’ve not been able to find an image of the replacement discussed.
